Collared Canada Geese:
Since 2012 WWT, FERA and Exeter University have been running a project looking at the movement of Canada Geese. As part of this project a number of Canada Geese were collar ringed in the Water Park (orange collar with 2 letters). The project is now coming to an end and the findings will be written up. There is no longer any need to send sightings of collar ringed Canada Geese within the Water Park.
There will be other species which have been collar tagged or nasal tagged elsewhere in the country and it is important that you submit any record of these to BTO.
Can I thank all of you who have submitted sightings of these geese to this website over the past 5 or 6 years. Any record you sent in was forwarded on to the researcher in this project and I am sure we can look forward to the findings of this research.
It will not be feasible to remove the collars from the geese that are still wearing them. Can I assure everyone that these do not have a detrimental effect on the geese and any goose still out there with a collar will have lived a long time with this piece of jewellery.
