WeBs day today and it is worth having a look at the number of birds being recorded around Cleveland Lakes (inc GBB Gull).  We do get criticism over a perceived lack of birds in CWP, but apparently this site (or should that be sight)  is amazing at present. 

Shorncote reed-bed area:   6 Grey heron, 7 Little egret, 20 Tufted duck, 6 Gadwall, 2 Cettis warblers,  Chiffchaff, Snipe, 2 Buzzard, Bullfinch, 20 long-tailed tits, 6 Reed bunting, 4 Redwing, Fieldfare, Lapwing, Great-crested grebe     Graham Powell

CWP125: 112 Tufted Duck, 99 Common Pochard, 2 Shoveler.    John Durell

CWP124, 123, 115: 26 Goldeneye, 41 Common Pochard, 2 Common Gull.     John Durell

CWP116: 105 Wigeon, 1 Little Grebe.    John Durell

CWP114: 11 Goldeneye, 35 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Kingfisher.    John Durell

Ashton Keynes:   Garden Sightings.  The ground feeders are attracting large numbers of birds currently.  Blackcaps up to 8 (5 males on Friday, 3 females on Saturday).  Reed Buntings visiting constantly, estimate 15-20 individual, probably more.  Long-tailed Tits usually over 10 at a time. Blackbird 6, Goldfinch 8, Coal Tit 2.   John Grearson

WeBS count at Welford Pools:  90 teal and 70 greylag geese on CWP 104, large flocks long tailed tits all day.   Mark Lang

WeBS count at Cleveland Lakes:   17 Great black-backed gull, 1 common gull, 68 herring gull, 5 black-headed gull, 85 lesser black-backed gull, 42 mute swan, 2 canada goose, 5 greylag goose, 1 grey heron, 7 cormorant, 22 great crested grebe, 1 dunlin, 1 green sandpiper, 12 lapwing, 12 water rail, 1 kingfisher, 641 coot, 97 pintail (59 male, 38 female), 17 goldeneye, 245 shoveler, 2,014 wigeon, 85 pochard (56 male, 29 female), 1,125 teal, 274 gadwall, 113 mallard and 68 tufted duck.   A total of 4,961 birds.    Nick Adams
