Thank you to all who read this blog in 2015 and especially thanks to all who submitted records; already records have come in for 2016 and I am a bit late in publishing this entry as a result.
This site was set up for a number of reasons, the main ones being:
To provide local birders with information as to what can be found in the Cotswold Water park. The area is very suitable for both serious birdwatchers and those new to birding or those simply out for a walk hoping to see a few birds at the same time.
To help capture information about species within the the Water park area. This is probably the most important reason for the website, as all information is passed to the CWP Trust which maintains a database to help protect the environment of this area.
In 2015 the site was viewed over 100,000 times which is an increase of over 10% on 2014 and is up over 25% on 2013. Despite this the number of individuals visiting the site remains roughly the same as 2014.
This information is anonymous so I don’t know who these people are, or how they have changed over the years, but it does seem to me that these numbers tend to indicate that the website is being used for ‘what’s about’ checks rather than for general birdwatching.
The number of people reporting sightings remains relatively low and the site relies on a small but enthusiastic group of people sending in information. At present I tend to publish most of what I am sent but would love to have more records so that I could be more selective in what is printed (whilst at the same time sending all the records to the Trust). It is not just about birds and records of any species of flora and fauna are welcome.
Best Wishes for 2016
