Blakehill:  At about 2.30 p.m. a Short-eared Owl appeared, quartering over the plateau and it continued to do this intermittently for the next hour and a half.  Male Merlin on top of a bramble bush resting and preening,  the rich golden breast colour and dark bluish back showed well in good light.  Eventually it started chasing Meadow Pipits.  At least two, possibly three Kestrels, a flock of about 200 Starlings, 9 Fieldfares and 6 Magpies.    A Black Redstart has been reported on the information board on site (not reported to this website).   John Grearson.   Steven Edwards.  Ken Cypher.
