Speckled Wood (John Grearson)

Speckled Wood (John Grearson)

Big Butterfly Count today at CWP68D:   The count was 21 butterflies of 8 species plus yet another Brown Argus.  This is the fourth local site in which I have found this species this week.  The minimum counted butterflies were Small Tortoiseshell (9), Gatekeeper (3), Common Blue (2), Peacock (2), Small White (2), Green-veined White (1), Comma (1) & Small Copper (1).    Also on the way back to the car park a pristine Speckled Wood was seen.  The main surprise today was a cockerel on the path near the car park. Large numbers of young warblers and other birds throughout the bridleway area.    John Grearson
