Very belated record of Long Tailed Duck seen during WeBs count at Neigh Bridge.

Other highlights from WeBs count at Cleveland Lakes:  Wigeon 949, Grey Heron 10, Mallard 120, Gadwall 66, Teal 130, Coot 139, Lapwing 400+, Shoveler 52+, Goldeneye 13, Pochard 95.     Plus 2 Snipe, singing Cetti’s Warbler, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 3 flocks of Long-tailed Tit, Treecreeper, Bullfinch, 2 Jay, 10+ Redwing, Kestrel, Meadow Pipit 10, Song Thrush 10+.     Gareth Harris

(Its interesting that despite the very high count of species such as Wigeon, Gadwall and Teal, numbers of Coot and Great Crested Grebe on Cleveland Lakes are currently unusually low. Normally at this time of year we’d expect to see larger and more regular flocks of Lapwing and Golden Plover, but the high floodwater has removed much of the roosting areas on the scrapes.   G.H)
